Spanish for your holiday · Chapter 7: In the restaurant

It was delicious

To the next lesson

The next sentence: Estaba delicioso. Me encanta la cocina española. – “It was delicious. I love Spanish cooking.”

First the Spanish cooking: your grandmother loves to cook, always laughs while she does it and sings into the night (la cocina – from the German “lacht”, “kochen” and “Nacht”: “laughs”, “cook” and “night”). Whenever she spills something, she trembles like an aspen leaf; then her grandson comes along, plays the pan flute and yodels, and she laughs again (española – from the German “Espenlaub”, “Enkel”, “Panflöte” and “jodeln”).

Then the scene: you have eaten and paid, the whole family is happy and the staff thank you. You are holding a cup showing an elephant stirring a bath with a stick in its trunk (estaba – from the German “Elefant”, “Stab” and “Bad”). In the bath someone is lying and stretching, holding a sieve; the tub is as round as an O and the sun is shining behind it (delicioso – from the German “dehnt”, “liegt”, “Sieb” and “Sonne”). A male duck also swims in the bath, always up to the edge where a cup sits (me encanta – from the German “männliche Ente”, “Kante” and “Tasse”). It is written me encanta, but Elena runs it together a little when she speaks.
