Spanish for your holiday · Chapter 6: Accommodation

When do I have to check out?

To the next lesson

The next sentence: ¿Hasta cuándo puedo hacer el check-out? The word check-out sounds almost like the English one, so it simply stays as it is in the story.

You are sitting in your room, waiting for someone to tell you that you have to leave. Suddenly someone bangs on the door with a branch so hard that the cups rattle (hasta, from the German “Ast” for “branch” and “Tassen”). In one cup there is a cow that you feed with pineapple from a tin (cuándo) – the tin (“Dose”) tells this word apart from cuánto in the previous sentence.

Meanwhile you are powdering your nose with the elephant on the tin (puedo). Then you clean your face with an old napkin (hacer), get an electric shock (el) and know it is time to check out (check-out).
