Croatian for your holiday · Chapter 1: Greetings and First Phrases

What Is Your Name?

To the next lesson

Kako se zovete? is the polite form of “What is your name?”. The only difference to the previous phrase is the ending – and that is exactly what gets swapped in the image.

This time an elegant lady is standing in front of you, someone you would not address informally. Her hot drink with the nappies now has a sieve in it instead of the dictionary: that marks the polite form. Beside her is the odd-smelling camel again, and she walks with it to a lake where the wind is strong, the sun rises, she strolls along a path and drinks tea. Camel, lake, wind, sun, path and tea give you kako se zovete.

Repeat the sentence ten or twenty times with Ljubica. The order of the syllables is secured by the images – the speed is just a matter of practice.
