National identity and politeness

To the next lesson

Do not refer to Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish people as English. National identity is a complicated and sensitive subject; each country has its own culture and history that deserves respect.

People in Britain place great value on politeness and take pride in it. Please, thank you and sorry are heard everywhere – it is even normal to thank the bus driver as you get off.
