Spanish for your holiday · Chapter 9: Getting around town

How do I get to the bus station?

To the next lesson

The next sentence: ¿Cómo puedo llegar a la estación de autobuses?

Because “How do I get to …?” comes up often, it gets a standard image – just like the gate for por favor. At an information stand on the street there is a chest of drawers, in German a “Kommode” (cómo). On it stands a poodle, an elephant with a tin (puedo). In the tin there is a date with a little cream; an elephant fishes it out with its trunk and finds it properly cooked – in German “gar” (llegar). That is why the stress falls on -gar. From now on the chest of drawers stands for the whole phrase.

After your question you are first handed an apple and you laugh (a la). Then someone points to a few branches where the station is (estación). If you stretch your head a little (de), you can also see the buses, with people eating inside (autobuses) – the eating, in German “essen”, reminds you of the ending -ses.
